the start of mass media. gutenberg's printing press along with movable type allowed the dispersal of information far beyond the capabilities of humans transcribing copies of text. it is one of the greatest inventions in human history in how it made information accessible to almost anyone. now it is street furniture. the name gutenberg is forgotten in this context and replaced with the more pop culture icon steve gutenberg. sad.
